Frying oil turned dark 1/3 way through

Sorry if this is a bad question, Google failed me and I’m in the middle of frying tofu nuggets. The oil has turned black and started smoking. Do I dump it and proceed with new oil and lower heat?

Edit: probably relevant. I’m pan frying in a large stainless steel frying pan in 1/4-1/2 inch of avocado oil.
