First Time with Dry Chickpeas

Hey there! For the first time, I wanted to try cooking with dry chickpeas. I soaked them in a jar in the fridge for 24 hours. Just threw them in a pan and...they're still pretty hard! I can bite them, but they split into two pretty firm halves. Is this normal? Previously I've used canned chickpeas and they're VERY soft.
