In general, why are western cuisines more acceptable to be “expensive”, compared to ethic food, such as Chinese, Central American, and Indian?

In modern media, chinese food is considered as “take out when I’m out of money”, and it’s quite similar to central American and Indian food. On the other hand, cuisines like French and italian are considered “fancy date night” food. What’s the historical reason behind it? why is it acceptalbe, at least in the US, that ethic cuisines are cheap and low quality, while western cuisines are not? What can we do to fix it?
