If you're worried about inflation this year, Amazon's Black Friday deals offer some of the best savings, with many sale prices matching or beating what we saw during the retailer's Prime Day event in October. If you're on the hunt for gifts (for yourself or others), there's a good chance you'll find what you're looking for at a discount.

Amazon Black Friday 2022: What to expect

If Amazon's second Prime Day is any indication, expect a little something for everyone on your list for Black Friday. Some of the best deals from the Prime Early Access Sale included 10% off the just-released second-generation Apple AirPods Pro, 13% off the 2022 iPad Air, and record-low prices on other Apple products. We also saw great deals on giftable Amazon devices, like the Kindle Paperwhite and Amazon Echo Show 8

Other popular items from the second Prime Day were Casper pillows, Laniege's cult beauty products, the original Peloton Bike, and LG's 65-inch C1 OLED TV

Of course, Amazon's Black Friday sale is a great opportunity to snag Amazon devices and you'll find great deals on smart TVs of all sizes and price points. In terms of home and kitchen, expect deals on vacuums from popular makers like Dyson, Shark, and Bissell, as well as kitchen appliances from Ninja, Instant Pot, and KitchenAid.

Last year, Amazon reported a record-breaking Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The retailer says toys, homeware, and apparel were its top-selling categories, with top gifts including the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer, Beats Solo3 Headphones, and the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote

When is Amazon's Black Friday?

This year, Black Friday 2022 lands on Friday, November 25, the day after Thanksgiving. Cyber Monday 2022 falls on November 28. While Amazon will certainly participate in Black Friday, it's clear there are plenty of Black Friday deals available right now.

Is Prime Day better than Black Friday?

Prime Day brings the lowest prices of the year on Amazon's own products. Prices for Amazon devices like Kindles, Fire TVs, and Echo devices are typically the lowest on Prime Day. It's worth noting that Amazon also owns Ring and Blink, which both offer home security systems.

That said, Prime Day is only for people who have a Prime membership. Black Friday, on the other hand, is open to everyone.

Generally speaking, discounts are more or less the same between Black Friday and Prime Day. We do typically see Prime Day-like pricing on Amazon devices on Black Friday. The bigger difference is Amazon's Black Friday sale offers price reductions on a wider range of products and categories. Amazon Black Friday deals include competitive pricing on big-ticket categories, from smart TVs to mattresses.

For understanding the real value of any deal, we recommend using the free tool CamelCamelCamel, which allows you to track the price history of everything on Amazon. We're also big fans of Keepa, which has a browser extension that actually offers a price history chart directly on each Amazon product page.

Do you need to be a Prime member to shop Black Friday at Amazon?

Unlike Prime Day, which requires a Prime subscription, Amazon's Black Friday sale is open to everyone.

However, Prime memberships comes with worthwhile perks. If you're like most Americans and plan to do most of your holiday shopping during Black Friday, we strongly suggest you become a Prime member.

What are the most popular Amazon devices to gift this year?

Knowing that Amazon tends to give the biggest discounts to its own devices, here's a quick rundown on this year's most popular devices.

  • Kindles: This year, Amazon revamped its base Kindle model and introduced the brand new Kindle Scribe, an e-reader you can write on. These models are unlikely to see sales since they're such fresh releases, but you can expect to see older ones like the Kindle Oasis and Paperwhite, down to all-time lows. We also expect to see worthwhile bundle deals including Amazon's e-readers and accessories like cases and Kindle Unlimited.
  • Echo speakers: We're seeing big discounts on Amazon's brand-new 5th Generation Echo Dot. We also often see deals with Echo speakers of every price point bundled with other smart gear, like smart bulbs, Ring doorbells, and more.
  • Fire TV devices: Amazon also announced a new Fire TV Omni QLED this fall, and it's being discounted right now. If you're hunting for even better deals, though, keep an eye out for Amazon's older TV models and Fire TV streaming devices — they'll probably drop to their best prices of the year.
  • Ring and Blink security cameras: Amazon's new array of 2022 devices includes the new Ring Spotlight Cam Pro, the Blink Mini Cam Tilt, and the Blink Wired Floodlight camera for keeping tabs on your home, inside and out. They might drop in price this Black Friday, but if you're looking for a sure bet, keep an eye on Ring doorbells and older Blink camera models. They often drop to all-time lows both individually and bundled together.
