I'm making soup with a ham bone tomorrow but I'm not clear on how "clean" the bone needs to be

The recipe I'm using (https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/13384/split-pea-soup/) says there will be meat on the bone to pull off and chop up, so I assume I'm not supposed to remove every bit of ham left on it. What about fat? The ham I got is very fatty, will leaving a bunch of fat on the bone be fine too?

I googled but didn't really get anywhere with my search.

Thanks!
