What do people, especially Asians, mean when they say they eat eggs and rice?

I hear a lot of people on tv/podcasts etc, with a majority of them being of Asian background, say that one of their most common meals is eggs and rice.

I assume the name is pretty literal, but what is it exactly? Is it just rice served with a fried/boiled egg? Or is raw egg cooked through the rice?
