EDIT: Solved!
Came into a food safety question that I didn’t know how to word into Google, please no judgement! So, like many people, today I’m cooking an Easter ham (bone-in spiral cut). There’s just the two of us and times are a bit tough, so I’m trying to stretch the ham as best I can. Accoridng to Google, I can keep the leftover ham good in the fridge for 3-4 days. So let’s say we have three glorious days of ham leftovers (sandwiches, hash, etc). On the fourth day I want to take the ham bone and remaining meat and make a huge batch of split pea soup. Does incorporating the ham into a new dish mean that I can now keep that soup good in the fridge for 3-4ish days? Or because the ham was already on its way out, does the new soup only have a refrigerator shelf life of about a day?
Similarly, if I freeze ham after 3-4 days of fridge time, when it thaws does it have a remaining shelf life of a day or 3-4 days?
Disclaimer: I know there’s not a hard an fast rule for “four days has hit, it must be bad now”. I also know that sight, smell, and touch are my best friend. I’m just trying to plan ahead, and also I’m curious.
