I am planning on making some shrub mix? juice? to mix with seltzer, made with vinegar, sugar, and fruit. I have not done this before and I have some flip top bottles I was going to put them in and then into the fridge. I know that, similar to canning, this usually involves sanitizing the bottles before hand.
I'm having some trouble getting the flip tops OFF the bottles, so I'm not sure if boiling them is a good idea or if it might melt the cap. I'm also not sure if the sanitize cycle in the dishwasher or the oven are good alternatives. I'm not going to do bleach since that seems a bit scary. Would something like the dishwasher work for sanitizing the bottles? Or if I plan on drinking the shrubs within some close time frame would regular washing be fine since they wouldn't sit around long enough to get gross?
