marinating pan seared salmon

I've read that when you make pan seared salmon you should dab the salmon with a paper towel to dry it out first before you start cooking. I want to marinate my salmon first, though. Would I still want dry it off before I start cooking or do I want to leave the marinade there?

I'm still very new to cooking so I hope this question isn't dumb.
