What the hell is this on my buddy's brisket cap?

The brisket in question. And another one cut through. He says it doesn't really smell off, and it's only been in his fridge for a day. Obviously my first thought is mold but I'd imagine it would be more spread out. There's no way it was He probably won't eat it, at least this part, but I'm flummoxed by what it is.

.. It's probably just rot, isn't it?
